2024 Bali to Tokyo -Day 2 of cruise

Yesterday afternoon was pleasant, John sat by the pool, I read my book while doing laundry. It is so nice having laundry facilities on board the ship. I got the first load (John's super sweaty and stinky workout clothes) done with no issues. Next load, my clothes. Wouldn't you know it, the washer breaks and my clothes get locked in the machine mid cycle.😾 I tell the staff and they notify the ship repairmen. I check throughout the day, and it seems they are busy with other more important tasks as my clothes are still in washing machine jail! I check every few hours and the machine finally decides to randomly release them early in the evening.  I hang them up and determine to let them repair the machine and test it out on others before I trust it enough to put mine back in for a re-wash... As they don't smell right.

I did test out the gluten free pizza and it was passable. the crust was pretty tough and hard to cut or chew but the flavors of the sauce and meat were really quite good.

We are having a difficult time entertaining ourselves as we are both use to being pretty busy. Dinner was nice. When we arrived, they let us know that jackets were required so we had to go back to the room to get John's dinner jacket. Back to dinner, we sit down to a lovely charcuterie board of cheeses, meats, olives and breads. I ask for gluten free bread and scoop the tapenade off of the devil bread that it is sitting on and lovingly deposit it on my bread, add balsamic and plenty of salt.... Heaven! This picture is the view from our table. The ambiance is nice and we are feeling a little spoiled.

Overall, today was a little uneventful but nice.

I wake up at 5 am to hear John on the phone with room service ordering coffee. I quickly ask him to add hot water so that I can make tea and then an apple. He heard the hot water part and got that added but conveniently didn't hear me ask for an apple. He lives in fear of my requests slowing down his coffee order. So... no apple for me (I did think ahead and grab an apple at the breakfast buffet later for tomorrow morning). We head to the gym, and I select a workout on YouTube again. This one was a 45-minute cardio and free weight bootcamp that was quite hard and left me feeling pretty good & tired. I am committed to leaving this cruise better than I arrived!

Breakfast was excellent. We ate outside today and I wasn't bothered by the diesel fumes like yesterday so the winds must be blowing the correct direction today for our enjoyment! Thank you, God. Then... a lady that enjoys her perfumed fabric softener just a little too much sat right next to us. ugh! I always feel like such a complainer, but clothes really don't have to smell that strong, right? I started with a selection of fruit with included ripe figs. I think I love figs! Interestingly enough, I am reading that book that I mentioned previously, and it is set in Rome 70-ish AD. I can imagine them eating figs among other fruits. Isn't it interesting to imagine someone a few thousand years ago eating a piece of fruit that we eat today? Probably not from the same tree but it makes me feel just a little more connected to the millions of people that have come before us. The rest of breakfast is much the same as yesterday's. Salmon, bacon, and hash are my go to's.

We head back to the room to get ready for our day and I remind John that I'd really like to go to the bridge lessons at 10am. He doesn't look happy as he wanted to go to the pool and this messes up the routine. He acquiesces though as he is trying to make me happy. I grab a teaspoon of matcha and put it in one of the teacups leftover from our coffee service this morning so that I can take it to the cafe to have them make me a matcha. I end up making us two (2) minutes late for the bridge lessons getting my matcha (made with almond milk as oat is not available). John quickly sits down-frustrated that I have made him late. As soon as we sit down, the instructor mentions that he will be reviewing what was taught yesterday and teaching additional information today. John immediately stands up and leaves while I am standing there with a look of apology on my face. I tell the instructor that we thought this was a class for beginners which he promptly confirms. John is gone though and doesn't hear. The instructor asks us to stay, and I look around to confirm that John is gone with no way to reel him back in. I thoughtlessly explain that my husband wanted an excuse not to be here anyways as I leave with a smile. Everyone bursts into laughter as many of the spouses are probably feeling the same way but didn't get the option to leave. John gets pretty mad at me for making fun of him, which I didn't think I was doing and we get in quite a tiff. I think that hanging out with me 24/7 is getting more and more difficult for him. When I consider the accommodations of many of our vacations and the difficulty in which I navigate my life regarding food, smells, etc., and how hard that ends up being on John- having to sit through it all with me and often getting his orders messed up by association. I think that staying at home would be so much more comfortable. Then I consider the time that I get to spend with John without him having his office to evade me to and settle in to really enjoy the conversations and time that we spend simply together.
